How to Play Roll Your Own
Each player is required to ante a fixed denomination at which point the dealer will begin to deal each player three cards face down. Once all of the cards have been dealt, each player will view their cards and the first betting round will begin with the first player to the left of the dealer.
Once the first betting round is complete each player will choose one of the three cards in their hand and turn it face up. This has to be done at the same time. Once the first cards are shown players can begin a second betting round.
Following the second betting round each player will receive a 4th card dealt face down. Once again, players will select one of the three unexposed cards and turn it face up at the same time. In the 3rd round of betting, betting will begin with the player two seats away from the dealer. If that player is out of the hand, the player to their left will take control of betting.
This process will repeat for two more rounds at which point the final and seventh card will be dealt face down. Although the other rounds required players to select a card from their hand to show the table, this round does not and players will not need to show any additional cards. At this stage in the game, each player should have four cards face up and three cards face down. A final betting round will begin and once complete, each player will show their hand. To win Roll Your Own, you must have the best five card poker hand from the seven cards given to you.
Roll Your Own Strategy and Betting
There are a few things players know and understand with Roll Your Own. First, each betting round starts with a new player. Unlike the traditional version of seven card stud where betting begins with the first player to the left of the dealer, Roll Your Own requires each player to have a chance to start the betting round in a clockwise rotation.
By choosing which cards you get to show the other players at the table your given the ability to control your hand more so than the standard game of stud. The object of Roll Your Own is to be able to make the best five card hand. Unlike the standard stud game, you can use the face down cards as part of your strategy for this game by keeping the strength of your hand hidden with down cards.
